I love this piece! I was gifted with a box full of vintage puka shells from my sister's friend, who had had the contents since the late 70s! These particular pukas are not symmetrical. The weight of this necklace is sublime. Shells are strung with waxed brown cord. The fastener is a macraméd waxed white thread over brown cord that forms a loop, which slips over a white scarab bead to fasten (see Detail 3). The featured loop is composed of smaller puka shells centered around 4 chunks of rough, Lapis Lazuli beads, and strung with copper wire. The pukas have subtle shades of purple, brown and blue.
